We are proud to be one of the few US retailers of the extremely well-made, thoughtfully designed Pietro Moretti basses. The 1/16 size, like all the Moretti sizes, is an exact miniature of an Andreas Morelli, right down to the aptly scaled solid brass tuning machines (see photo). Fully carved of traditional spruce and maple, with genuine ebony fittings - solid ebony tailpiece and endpin collar, generous, very well-shaped dense ebony fingerboard - and a custom, also exactly scaled, maple bridge (this size does NOT have bridge adjusters). Extra-long adjustable endpin with screw-on jumbo crutch tip facilitates extending the endpin long enough for the instructor to play the instrument. These basses are real basses from soup to nuts, not assembled from cello parts. Okay, except the bag. The 1/16 size bass has the same string length and general body size as a 3/4 cello (see photo for its size compared to a 4/4 cello), and comes with a padded bag (included). This size is suitable for bassists of the height of the average 5 to 7 year old. Please feel free to contact us prior to purchase for assistance in choosing the right size - due to the high risk of damage from shipping it repeatedly, this instrument is returnable only if it is found to be damaged or defective. A properly scaled, great-playing, well made, genuine 1/16 size bass bow is also available from us - French and German models! The 1/16 size Moretti bass ships via UPS Ground, very well packed, with bridge down. Your purchase is your acknowledgement that you may have to take the bass to your local luthier and have the sound post set, as well as other minor adjustments resulting from shipping. Returns on this bass are accepted in the event it is found to be damaged or defective. Our commitment to making the highest quality fractional basses and equipment available, and easily accessible, is to facilitate new bassists of all ages. We welcome questions about all aspects of beginning young bassists, and we stock a wide assortment of specialized equipment for their needs, as well as advocate teachers of the most effective young-bassist pedagogy.
