Evan Halloin - bassist in the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra - has transcribed and arranged this sonorous Sonata in b minor, HWV364a, for double bass and continuo. Originally for violin and continuo in the key of g minor, the piece is sometimes referred to as Op. 1 No. 6. Four movements: Andante Larghetto - Allegro - Adagio - Allegro. Beautifully engraved, easy to read - with the sensible use of treble clef - and expertly edited by the arranger, this sonata affords the bass soloist the happy circumstance of performing with another bassist in the continuo, thus creating an employment opportunity amongst the bass brotherhood (a brilliant move on the part of the arranger). The arrangement includes solo bass part (orchestra tuning), continuo bass part, and continuo grand-staff part.
