Evan Halloin - bassist in the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra - has transcribed and arranged 4 interesting and entertaining movements from Darius Milhaud's Saudades do Brasil. Arranged for solo bass (in orchestra tuning) and piano, the four movements - 3. Leme, 4. Copacabana, 5. Ipanema and 6.Gavea - are difficult in their tessatura and are very rhythmic, abounding in the syncopations that are characteristic of Brazilian music. They will be demanding to learn to play but rewarding in the accomplishment and performance. Beautifully engraved, easy to read and expertly edited by the arranger, these dances will be a welcome addition to the serious bassist's repertoire.
