The well-known 40 variations by the grand pedagogue of the violin, Otakar Sevcik, Op. 3, have been available for quite some time as transcriptions for viola and cello, as well as the original work for violin, which was published in 1901. This work has been acclaimed as fundamental to the development of orchestra strokes for other string players - now, thanks to the work of Evan Halloin, bassist with Kansas City Symphony, we bassists finally have our own edition! Evan has titled his edition Variations, and notes that he has omitted variations 39 and 40 for practical reasons; he has also included multiple versions of some of the other variations - either in different keys, or different registers of the bass. A significant etude book which stands to assist the development of any orchestral bassist. 27 pages; copyright 2013 by Halloin Music.
