QBC's Custom solid wood Laborie-style endpin! Our endpins are made right here in the shop from high tensile strength hickory, custom-milled just for us (this is not ordinary dowel you can buy at Home Depot!), then precision-turned to exactly match the taper of the standard reamer used to cut the hole in the bass. Hand-finished with multiple coats of Danish oil. Supplied with a heavy-duty rubber stopper.
In answer to a multitude of customer requests for a neutral-colored endpin stopper that would not leave marks on their better half's floors and carpets, the default color of our stoppers is now grey. Think of them as sneakers for your endpin. If you are a bachelor or plan to become one, feel free to request a black stopper in your order notes, or to order a backup black stopper for those occasions when you prefer dress attire for your endpin.
Please select with care to ensure you are ordering a long enough endpin (overall length, including stopper) - returns on this item are accepted only in the event the item received is not an angled wood endpin in the length ordered. This product is manufactured for use with basses which are already drilled and reamed to the standard taper for the "angled endpin" or "Laborie-style" endpin. This endpin needs to seat no less than 65mm into the socket on the longest part of the angled hole.
Replacement stoppers: We sell replacement stoppers for a nominal cost - you may also replace your stopper with any type of stopper you like. Many are available at hardware stores as furniture leg tips. We stock the most heavy-duty stoppers we can source (having tested every brand available), but regrettably, we don't warranty stoppers due to widely varying habits of players. We have heard of some players wearing out two stoppers in a week, while others report going through just one endpin stopper in several years of daily use.
We shouldn't have to issue a long list of instructions and disclaimers, but you would be as dismayed as we are at the farfetched claims of items being defective when upon inspection they were found to have unmistakable signs of misuse, such as tool marks and cross-grain breakage from being used as a lever. So: if you are uncertain about how to keep the endpin securely seated, or whether your bass has a correctly drilled socket, or have concerns about the structural integrity of a natural wood item, choose a carbon-fiber endpin rather than this item. An endpin partially slipping out of the socket can damage the endpin and the bass. Remove from the bass when not actively playing (during performance breaks, while carrying the bass etc.). Do not use tools to hold this product, or modify it, or use it for any other purpose; the hand strength required to play the bass is sufficient to remove or reposition an endpin. Periodically inspect it, and don't use it if you see any grain separation or any other wear or damage. Given the additional lever force to which longer endpins are subjected, the maximum length we will now produce is 12", and we have discontinued the version with an added steel spike.
This product is not returnable once used, has no warranty, and we assume no liability.
