As one of the most popular etude books for double bass to ever to hit the shelves, no bassist should be without the 30 Etudes by Franz Simandl. By being so popular, they are often tapped as audition pieces for Middle and High School orchestra programs around the country. Whether it be the etude to place students or one of the etudes which decide the fate of which bassists get to play in regional and state level orchestra programs, the 30 Simandl etudes are ubiquitous, to say the least. Anyone who teaches bass should own this, even if they don’t think in Simandl terms because it is impossible to avoid them.
The difficulty of the 30 etudes varies a great deal. The first few etudes seem to be aligned with the middle to the end of the first Simandl Method Book. The rest definitely fit with Volume 2 of the Simandl Method Book. Product description by Andrew Sutton
